Under the Microscope (01 - 29 10)

by Ken Tharman

February 01, 2010

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We have had a very busy week.  I have been running across two counties for the last couple of weeks like a maniac.  I only have one more of these stressful weeks and then things SHOULD calm down for awhile.

Can you believe we are done with regular season JH basketball?  Next week we play in the GNEC tournament in Logan on Monday and Thursday.  Please take time to go down and support the teams.

We have also started collecting “Pennies for Patients” for the Leukemia cause.  The students have been given boxes to help them hold the money they collect.  We know it is called “pennies” for patients …… but any donation will be accepted.  The 5th – 8th grades are competing with each other to see who can raise the most.  If you feel inclined to donate, please send it with your child.  Thank You.

5th Grade:

We have completed the EARTH project.  I did not my any means cover all of the material that is available.  I think there are enough lesson plans provided to last half a year; however, it is time to move on to something new.  Workbook pages 129 – 134 will be assigned on Monday and will be DUE on Friday, February 5th.

6th Grade:

We have finished two lessons on genetics that are packed with information.  The TEST is Monday, February 1st.  I have given the students the question numbers and pages to study.  Workbook pages 103 – 108 will be assigned on Wednesday, February 3rd. There will not be a test over this last lesson on genetics, but I will have an assignment that wraps up this Chapter.

7th Grade:

We have finished up our section on graphing.  The kids have been really doing well with this section.  The next few chapters that we cover, we will cover with a little more haste.  There are a few more key concepts that I want to be fresh in the back of their minds when they take the state assessments in April.   With that in mind, I may jump around in the book.  We are starting Chapter 6 this week.  Assessment 6.1 will be DUE on Wednesday, February 3rd, and 6.2 will be DUE on Monday, February 8th.

8th Grade:

We will be starting Chapter 12 after finishing the write ups on the activities we did last week.  12.1 Assessment will be DUE on Wednesday, Feb. 3rd / 12.2 Assessment will be DUE on Friday, Feb. 5th / and 12.3 will be DUE on Monday, Feb. 8th.

Next Week:

Monday, February 1st – Jr High League BB tournament in Logan. Bus leaves at 3:30 PM. (NV girls against Damar @ 6 PM / NV boys against Damar @ 7 PM)
