Middle School Happenings (01 - 29 - 10)

By Robbie Griffiths

February 01, 2010

We are back and running at the Middle School.  The School Spelling Bee was held on January 13th.  This was my first year at the judges’ table and I had to work hard on my poker face.  I spell every word in my mind right along with the “speller.”  If one spells a word wrong, my kids say they can tell by the look on my face.  That’s fine until the last two are standing.  Then you can’t let on when one gives a wrong letter.  Therefore, I just stared at the table when the last two were standing.  This past week found our basketball teams in action.  The teams played games on both Thursday and Friday.  On Thursday we had the K-8 pep assembly in Almena.  This is a big day for our kids.  The Almena teachers put on a great skit and everyone really enjoyed it.  (OK, it was a bit hard to sit in the stands feeling like maybe I should be out there, too.)  The cheerleaders made up their own dance and performed it as well.  They did a great job.  After playing Thursday night, they were back at it on Friday afternoon.  The girls had a bigger fan club because of the grade school being able to watch for awhile.  The cheerleaders performed their dance that afternoon during the A boys’ game.  This gave parents a chance to see how well their girls dance.  As a concession stand helper, I want to thank everyone for their business and patience this year during the football and basketball seasons.  Working at the stand gives students experience and confidence.  We aren’t always right, we sometimes get confused, and sometimes we run out of food.  The positives far out weigh the negatives.  The money earned helps with many expenses and projects for our school.  So once again, thank you.

For this edition, the classes once again split up into groups to write.  Most of the students enjoy this and the noise level in my room gets a bit high.  The kids just go over and shut all my doors and just keep on working.  I would officially like to welcome our new students, Vanesa Hesser and Dallas Stillion in 8th grade, and Jesse Courtain in 6th grade.  We hope you enjoy this week’s contributions.

Eighth Grade

HEY!  Did you see that game last night?  We were awesome!  The boys’ A game was the most exciting.  It was close.  Jordan made 27 of our points.  The A team girls lost 16 to 22, but we tried our hardest.  Kolton made 6 points on C team, and wrestled with a kid for the basketball.  The high school had a pancake supper and made a lot of money.  We got two new students in our class.  We got a new girl, FINALLY!!   Vanesa Hesser is our new girl.  Vanessa wants to add, “arriving at a new school that I’ve already been to, was exciting and I also made  some new friends.”  That’s all for now folks!  Jon Meyer, Alex Stevens, Kolton Hilburn, Dakota Hilburn, and Vanesa Hesser

We played Thunder Ridge last night and we won 44-42.  We were behind most of the game but in the fourth quarter, we came back and beat them.  In B-ball, Dallas tackled a kid.  Christmas break went by too fast.  During break we were addicted to Modern Warfare 2, a video game.  One of our classmates went to the K-State game.  They beat Texas.  We have two new students, but both have been here before.  We started out the week with no school on Monday.  We can predict that Logan is going to lose the games tonight.  Aaron Pinzenscham, Mike Griffin, Jordan Baird, Hunter Chandler, and Ian Vincent

Seventh Grade

Checking in is some of the most talented boys in the class/world.  Those people are Smartacus Macy, Mr. Geography Carson, Gabriel the Quick, Phillip the All Around Sports Dude, and Brant the Normal.  As you know our school had a very extensive break.  We all had a blast then and Macy wants to tell you he won big on the slots in Vegas.  Recently we’ve had a lot of practices and have a lot of games to come.  Also we’ve had our school spelling bee in which Macy got third and Brant got fourth.  Long story short, this year has been a blast and we are planning to keep it that way.  Thanks for reading.  Oh wait!  Mr. Tharman is calling us to tell us that we need to finish our REAL spaceship which we are building.  Bye!  Brant Cox, Macy Kasson, Phillip Bryant, Carson Montgomery, and Gabriel Anderson

Hey all you Husky fans!  This is Ame, Clint, Makayla, Morgan, and Destiney.  Last night we played the Thunder Ridge Longhorns for the second time.  The A-team boys came out victorious and won 44-42.  Unfortunately all the other teams lost.  Today we play the Logan Trojans.  We have two practices left.  We’re really tired, too.  Sorry this isn’t very long but it’s early in the morning.  SEE YA!!!!! :-) !!!!!  Ame Baird, Clint Cole, Makayla Smith, Morgan Hawks, and Destiney Brannum

This is one of the seventh grade groups.  We are extremely worn out.  We had a basketball game with the Thunder Ridge Longhorns last night.  The A team boys game was good and the score was 44 to 42.  The game was intense.  The cheerleaders were getting the crowd wild.  The A team girls lost 16 to 22.  We were in the lead until the 3rd and 4th quarter.  We are very tired.  Go Huskies!!  ZZZZZZ……we are going to take a nap now.  Goodbye. Khrissanna VanPatten, Kortney Cunningham, Kobie Unterseher, Philip Rupp, and Alyssa Bryant.

Hey this is the awesome 7th graders: Matt, Tea, Tommy, Stewart, and Tony.  We had five JH games last night.  C-team boys were up first.  They lost but played their hearts out.  B-team girls lost but played well.  B-team boys were next.  They lost, but it was only by one point.  A-team girls were second to last to play and were winning for the first three quarters.  They ended up losing by nine points.  They played one of their best games.  A-team boys were the last to play and our only win.  They won by two.  Jordan had 27 points, Matt had 4, Ian had 11, Hunter had 2, and Clint played awesome.  One thing Tony did over Christmas break was visit his grandma.  Tommy went to Kearney.  Stewart went to Florida.  Matt got a laptop and went snow boarding.  Tea went to Colby.  I think we wrote enough so we should probably go.  Bye!  P.S.  Mrs. Griffiths loves us the most, but won’t admit it.  Matt Stutsman, Tea VanPatten, Tommy Hanes, Stewart Whitney, and Tony Anderson

Sixth Grade

Hey, what’s up?  This is Kirsten, Jesse, Talia, and Colten.  The basketball games last night went C-team boys lost, B-team boys lost, B-team girls lost, A-team girls lost, but it was really close, and the A-team boys won.  The games tonight should be good.  Let’s talk about the spelling bee.  People from our class that went were Eli, Brianna, Trey, Shayna, Camden, Sarah, and Vanessa.  Trey and Camden are going to the Norton County Spelling Bee.  We had almost three weeks of break.  It was awesome.  Talia and Kirsten went ice skating, and everybody went sledding.  Peace Out :-) Kirsten Burger, Jesse Courtain, Talia Lowry, and Colten Bach

Hey, this is Sarah, Vanessa, Skylar, and Eli.  We had our school spelling bee, and Trey got second place.  Trey and Camden are going to the county spelling bee.  We got Martin Luther King day off.  Our game on Thursday went well.  The B-team boys lost by one with 1.5 on the clock.  The C-team boys lost.  The B-team girls lost by 7 points.  The A-team girls lost, but the A-team boys won.  They won by only two points.  We hope to “kill” the Logan Trojans today.  Case closed.  Sarah Baird, Vanessa Garcia, Skylar Wright, and Eli Lowry

Hello!  This is the Fab Fashionable Girls and boy.  Over break we were pretty lazy.  When we got back to school, we had our school spelling bee.  Camden and Trey are going to county.  Last night we had our first game after Christmas and lost all the games except the A-team boys.  Brianna says they were so kind and generous and gentle.  Don’t know what is going through her mind.  (Just Kidding)  Tonight we are hoping to beat Logan.  Bye from Shayna Vincent, Allison Keith, Brianna Martin, and Matt Southerland, the guy.

Hey, yo, what’s up?  Basketball season is going well.  The girls are close every time and the boys are going GREAT!  Mrs. McKinney had a baby so Mrs. Montgomery has been helping.  We really like her.  We have like 4 games in two weeks.  We had a spelling bee.  Camden would like to share that he made it to county!  Break was wonderful, but we were ready to come back to school.  Today is Pink Day for breast cancer awareness.  Also today we have a game against Logan.  It will be a good game.  That’s all folks.  Bye, see ya later.  Brooke Baird, Briana Feummeler, Dalton Smith, and Camden Cox
