Coach Lowry’s Comments –
The Northern Valley Junior High competed in the WKLL BB tournament with semi-finals in Logan and quarter finals in Brewster. The tournament started with an intense game against the Golden Plains Bulldogs. We played through the nerves in the first quarter and found our rhythm for the rest of the game moving the ball well on offense and working together defensively. The top four teams moved on to Saturday where we started the day against a very fundamentally sound team, the Weskan Coyotes. In an attempt to contain their post player, we gave up too many other opportunities, but the effort was outstanding. We ended the day playing against our local rivals, the Logan/Palco Trojans. We started the game strong but ran out of steam on
numerous occasions trying to break their pressure. Too many turnovers led to our loss and fourth place at the tournament.
We are proud of the accomplishments these girls continued to make throughout the season. Their grit, their passion, and their determination to get better were apparent every day. We started the season with the motto “We will not settle” and the girls worked to accomplish this, meeting every goal they set for themselves. We are excited to see the 8th graders move on to high school basketball and watch what they achieve.

The tournament was a wonderful experience for the B-team girls, ending with third place. These six girls stepped up to the challenge of breaking a press, communicating on defense, and being bold on defense. They had to implement a variety of skills learned throughout the season while showing grit. The season, as a whole, may not statistically determine success but the improvement and growth of these girls is substantial, and I am so proud of them.

Coach Boehler's end of season comments:
The Jr. Huskies' boys basketball season came to a close on 2/12 at the WKLL JH League Tournament. The A team finished with a record of 3-9 while the B team finished with a record of 2-7. Although we did not come away with as many wins as we would have liked, it was a successful season for the Huskies in terms of growth and development.
For a lot of the B team players, it was there first time getting a full season of basketball under their belt. It was a great experience for them, and it will help us leading into next year. The A team boys battled all season long no matter what the scoreboard read. Their effort was never in doubt, and I know myself, and hopefully the rest of the school and community are proud of that as well. We played some really strong defense many times throughout the season but just struggled to rebound and take care of the ball well enough to have more success. The boys were also very coachable and showed tremendous growth throughout the season. I am excited to see the 8th grade boys continue to develop at the high school level and look forward to seeing what we can accomplish next season.

The Northern Valley Junior High hosted their last regular season game against the Cheylin Cougars. We knew this game would be tough and the girls fought hard in the first half staying within 12 points. We worked well breaking their press and took good shot opportunities, but the shot didn’t fall. The second half was a struggle and our effort level continually faded. The girls were disappointed in the loss but plan to work hard this week in practice to prepare for the WKLL tournament.
Assistant Coach McKinney’s Comments -
The Northern Valley B-team girls started off strong in the first half with good ball movement and communication of defense. We came out sluggish after the half and did not take advantage of open shots. It was disappointing to let the last regular season game get away from us with such a deficit, but we are looking forward to the WKLL tournament next week. Joplyn McCue led the team with 6 points.

The Northern Valley Junior High traveled to Winona to take on the Triplains/Brewster Titans for their last regular season road trip. The girls had a couple struggles with communication on defense but worked hard to clean it up. We did a great job of attacking the basket and getting rebounds. The 29-20 win improves out win/loss record to 8-2. Inez Schemper had a good game and a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds followed by Annika McKinney with 7 points and 9 rebounds. Next week will be a tough game against the Cheylin Cougars but we are looking forward to the competition.
Assistant Coach McKinney’s Comments -
The Northern Valley B-team girls started off strong but became intimidated by the Titans tight defense. It was a great reminder of how important it is to get all the little things right in a close game. The girls are excited about their last regular season game at home next week. Tayah Seeders led the team with 4 points and 7 rebounds.

The Northern Valley Junior High hosted the Heartland Christian Crusaders, earning their sixth win of the season. Due to a lack of numbers at Heartland Christian, we only played A-team games, but every girl got minutes on the court. Our focus was on using every possession and numerous passes to find the best shot opportunities. The girls averaged six passes per possession, and after cleaning up their defense in the second half and multiple steals, the girls kept the lead throughout the game. All five starters contributed to the scoring. Annika McKinney led the team with 11 points, followed closely by Cambrie Sproul with 10. Inez Schemper had 5 points and 10 rebounds.

The Northern Valley Junior High traveled to Logan to take on the Logan/Palco Trojans. After taking a loss to them at the Christmas Tournament, the Lady Huskies were ready to play. The first quarter felt a little chaotic, but the girls found some rhythm in the second quarter. We still have a lot of confidence to build when handling pressure, but the girls moved the ball well and had good shot attempts. In the fourth quarter we had numerous bad passes but kept the lead winning 19-14. Inez Schemper led the team with 6 points followed by Annika McKinney with 5 points and 11 rebounds.
Assistant Coach McKinney’s Comments -
The B-team girls started the game little sluggish but were able to find some open spots on the floor. The most exciting accomplishments were found on some great seals by the post players and drives by the guards. Six players contributed to the B-team girls’ first win of the season.
