Northern Valley FFA traveled to Norton today for land judging. We took 3 kids; we learned that land judging is hard, and everyone understands and judges it all differently. This is a judging that is a continuation of learning and growing in our knowledge and ability to judge this correctly and to the state standards. We worked hard at judging and staying warm today in the sprinkling rain. We hope to continue to learn and grow for the future. Be on the lookout for our future events and FFA fundraisers that are coming up.
The Northern Valley FFA has been hard at work for the past couple of weeks. Last week, we traveled to Colby for Dairy Cattle Judging, where we took 10 kids total. 9 Greenhands and 1 senior division. The greenhands did great and placed 11th as a team. We learned that there is room for improvement in our judging in dairy cattle. We also learned that sometimes our nerves get the best of us, and we forget what we wrote for our reasons. We will be working hard for next year in our dairy cattle and are going to be working hard on not letting our nerves get the best of us for our reasons that are to come later this year.

Alma Cross Country Invitational - September 14, 2026
Coach Ross Cole;
For the first time in 5 years, the Huskies have Cross Country and we have five runners representing the team (the last time NV had 5+ runners was 2013). Our first meet at Alma turned into a muggy mess. On the girls side of things, Tayah Seeders finished in 15th place running 35:33.23, and Shelby Lentz finished 18th running 37.32.33. Tayah earned a medal, and also sets a school record as no girl at Northern Valley has ever run the 5000 meter race. There were 22 total girl runners.
On the boys side, Zane Brown ran the fastest with a 23:45.56 placing 24th. Levi Black finished 38th running 31:09.47. Jeremiah Kirkland finished 42nd running a 34:11.40. There were 42 total boy runners. 3 runners is enough for a team as our boys placed 6th.
This was the first high school cross country race for the five runners, as well as myself. We learned a few things;
The meet is a lot hotter than our morning practices
Bring water bottles to hand runners during the race
Bring mosquito spray
Bring towels to wipe the nats off after the race (so many nats)
Start at a slower pace
Jeremiah was the only runner not to walk during the 5000 meter run. The following times were the runners first 1600m times: Zane 5:45, Levi 7:30, Tayah 7:40, Shelby 8:30, and Jeremiah 8:45. Every runner figured out that they can’t keep that pace for 3.1 miles. Each runner has goals to get a better time at the next meet at Norton on September 24.

The Huskies had a great night at the Jamboree in Oberlin! The JV started off the night sweeping Logan in three sets. They lost both matches vs St. Francis and Oberlin, but they fought hard and gained tons of game experience.
Varsity beat Logan 15-11, 15-6, 15-10; they also swept St. Francis 15-13, 15-11, 15-14, but fell to a tough Oberlin team 10-15, 8-15, 6-15. Offensive leaders were Iris Schemper and Haedyn Cox with 11 kills each; Jaycee Gebhard added 9 kills, Jordyn Cox with 6 kills, and Rene Horacek with 5. Haedyn and Iris led our serving for the night with 6 and 5 aces, respectively. Defensively, the Huskies hustled and covered the court like champs, with Jaycee and Jordyn leading in digs.
All in all, it was a great start to the season, and everyone gained valuable experience. Husky volleyball is off to a fantastic start!
