Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On May 26 th & 27 th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Wichita,
KS for the KSHSAA 1A State Championship Track Meet.
The NV Huskies Boys and Girls had 6 athletes participate. Bringing home medals were the
following:
400m – Brian Bencomo, 6 th place (52.89)
Pole Vault – Kenton Thalheim, 7 th place (12-06)
4x400m Relay – Brian Bencomo, Gavin Thalheim, Gabrial Rudd, and Kenton
Thalheim, 7 th place (3:42.94)
Coach Hansen, “The athletes performed well over a tough two days of competition and got
some great experience to build on next year.”

The Northern Valley Huskies took on the state meet and Emporia on May 22nd and 23rd. The Huskies made it with a full team after placing third at regionals in Oberlin. The team consisted of Foster Brands, Deacon Schemper, Jason Cox, Brody Preston, and Robert Vsetecka.
The Huskies were able to finish after the first day tied with Saint Francis in 8th place with a 404 score taken from the top four individual scores. The 8th-place team finish is the best in school history and two strokes better than last season. The top 6 teams qualified for the second day of the competition. After the top-6 teams were decided, then individuals were taken until the field was set at 54 golfers for day two.
Jason Cox shot a 93 and Foster Brands shot a 94 qualifying them both for day two as individuals.Jason and Foster didn't shoot as well the second day but still shot well. Jason shot a 100 and Foster shot a 98. Foster edged out Jason shooting a total of 192 over Jason's 193. Foster finished 39th and Jason finished 43rd.
Brody Preston just missed the cut with a 102 on the first day ending in 58th. Robert Vsetecka ran into some trouble on a few holes and ended with a 115 for 73rd and Deacon Schemper shot a 160 for 84th.
Overall, it was a very successful season for the Huskies and we look forward to next year!

Coach Hansen, “We had some disappointments today but I am proud of everyone that went out
there and worked hard no matter the final results. We had 8 PRs broken today and 6 athletes heading to
State.”
The Huskies will travel to Wichita next Friday and Saturday to compete in State.

Walking Challenge Complete! Congratulations to Emily Lowry for winning the walking challenge with 1,434,767 steps (717.38 Miles) and Alan Brown who got second place with 1,319,157 steps (659.58 Miles).
The Northern Valley Huskies Golf Team placed third at Regionals in Oberlin on May 15th. The Huskies will advance to the State Tournament in Emporia beginning May 22.
Individually:
Foster Brands took second place with a 96
Robert Vsetecka took 12th with a 107
Jason Cox and Brody Preston tied for 16th shooting 113
Deacon Schemper shot a 155.

Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On May 12 th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Hill City for the
WKLL League Track Meet.
The NV Girls placed 4 th scoring 47 points as a team. Bringing home medals were Mary Baird
with 2 nd in the high jump and 3 rd in the 200M, and Audrey Bina with 3 rd in the 100m and 2 nd in the triple
jump. Audrey Bina rebroke the NV school record held by her with a jump of 35-11.25. The NV girls
4x100 relay also brought home 3 rd .
The NV Boys came home with the 1 st place WKLL League Champion plaque scoring 136
points. Bringing home medals were Brian Bencomo with 1 st in the 200M and 400M, Kenton Thalheim
with1st in the pole vault and 2 nd in the 400M, Foster Brands with 1 st in the 110M hurdles and 2 nd in the
300M hurdles, Owen Hammond with 1 st in the 300M hurdles and high jump, Gavin Thalheim with 2 nd
in the pole vault and javelin, and Gabriel Rudd with 1 st in long jump and 3 rd in the 100M. The Husky
4x100m Relay took 1 st and the 4x400m Relay took 2 nd .
Coach Hansen, “Everyone performed well today and we had an exciting day. We hope to take
this momentum into regionals next week.”
The Huskies will travel to the Tribune next Friday to compete in Regionals.

Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Hill City to compete in the Western Kansas Liberty
League track meet. The Lady Huskies had a great day setting 15 personal records and finishing third as a
team with 73 points.
Individually the girls won four bronze medals: Jordyn Cox in the 100m hurdles, Haedyn Cox in the high
jump and pole vault, and Trista Smith in the discus. In addition, winning silver medals were Jordyn Cox
in the pole vault and 200m hurdles and Iris Schemper in the discus. Jordyn Cox won the only gold medal
for the day setting the meet record in javelin with a throw of 81’ 3”.
