Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Quinter for their 42 nd annual invitational track meet.
It was a cold and windy day but the girls competed hard against 15 other teams placing 9 overall.
Jordyn Cox earned a bronze in pole vault and 100m hurdles, and the silver medals went to the 400m
relay team of Andrea Meraz, Jaycee Gebhard, Rene’ Horacek, and Kylee Ledbetter.

Northern Valley Junior High Boys Track Results – Quinter Invitational
On April 28 the Northern Valley Junior High track team traveled to Quinter to compete in the 42 nd
annual Quinter Jr High Track Meet with 15 other schools. The Huskies gave it all they had on a cool,
windy day in western Kansas. The NV junior high boys placed 9 th as a team with 20 points against
some tough competition. The Husky relay teams ran well, placing 2 nd in the 4x100, 3 rd in the 4x200
and 5 th in the 4x400. 7 th grader Lucas Hansen had a PR in the triple jump, placing 4 th with a jump of
31’ 2”.

On Thursday, the new FFA Officers went to the NW district banquet and voted on district officers for the 2023-2024 year. Where Austyn Cox and Kai Cox received certificates for their state degree.

The Northern Valley Golf Team traveled to Alma, NE for a 9-hole meet on April 25th. The Huskies did very well overall in the contest which was cool but not windy as all of the previous meets have been. There were 70 competitors and the Huskies were the only Kansas school in attendance.
Brody Preston led the way shooting a 40, good for third place
Foster Brands shot a 42 and secured 7th place
Robert Vsetecka shot a 47, even after taking a circle 10 on a hole, good for a 2oth place finish
Jason Cox shot a 50, also with a 10 on one hole, to take 27th
Deacon Schemper had a career-best finish with a 63 and finished 51st
The Huskies' next meet will be on April 27th at the I-70 Classic. The meet consists of 18 holes starting in Wakeeney in the morning and then another 18 holes in Ellis in the afternoon. Attending will be Foster Brands, Jason Cox, and Robert Vsetecka.

Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On April 21st the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Osborne for the
Kaiser Relays Track Meet. A total of twelve teams competed on a very windy day.
The NV Girls placed 10th scoring 21 points as a team. Bringing home medals were Mary Baird
with a three way tie for 2nd place in the high jump, Audrey Bina with 2nd in the triple jump and 4th in
the 200m, and Landry Gebhard with 5th in the 3200m.
The NV Boys came home with 4th place scoring 48 points as a team. Bringing home medals
were Brian Bencomo with 2nd place in the 400m, Kenton Thalheim with 1st in the pole vault and 5th in
the 800m, Gabriel Rudd with 4th in the long jump, Owen Hammond with 2nd in the high jump, and
Gavin Thalheim with 3rd in pole vault. The Husky 4x400m Relay team placed 2
nd ran by Brian
Bencomo, Owen Hammond, Gabriel Rudd, and Kenton Thalheim.
Coach Hansen, “We had multiple athletes missing due to injuries but the Huskies performed
well despite the chilliness and high winds.”
The Huskies will travel to the Quinter Track Meet on Friday the 28th

The NV Huskies competed against a loaded field in Norton on April 21st. The wind was blowing hard for most of the contest and played a factor for all 63 competitors. The Huskies were led by Senior Foster Brands shooting a 99, Junior Brody Preston shot a 103, Junior Jason Cox and Sophomore Robert Vsetecka both shot a 111, Junior Peyton David shot a 130, and Senior Deacon Schemper shot a 142.
The Huskies will take on 9 holes in Alma on April 25th and then have the challenge of the I-70 Classic that consists of 18 holes in Ellis and then 18 holes in Wakeeney in the same day on April 27th.

The NV Husky golf team headed to Grinnell for the Varsity Invitational meet. The Huskies took Junior Brody Preston in his first meet back from injury shot a 98 and landed a 15th place finish for a medal. The Huskies also took the new Freshmen to this meet to get them exposure to a full 18 hole tournament on the smaller course in Grinnell. Clay Van Patten, Audrey Brubaker and Ayden Keith took on the field that was primarily varsity level players but also included some JV level competition. Audrey and Ayden shaved some strokes off from the JV meet in Grinnell last week in their first meet. All three are showing improvement throughout the season.
Northern Valley Junior High Boys Track
On April 20 the Northern Valley Junior High Track Team traveled to Osborne to compete in
the Bullpup Relays. The NV 6 th -7 th grade boys placed 2 nd as a team with 80 points. Tait Thalheim won
gold in the pole vault and Lucas Hansen also won the gold medal in the 75m dash. Griffin McKinney
won a silver medal in the shot and Cash Compton won silver in the 75m dash. Peter Towne improved
his time in the two mile, placing third.
The three NV 8 th grade boys placed 5 th as a team with 39 points. Wyatt Compton ran well in
the sprints placing second in the 75, 100 and 200. Gabe Martinez ran the two mile for the first time
winning the silver medal and Conner David had a PR in the discus placing fourth with a throw of 97’.

Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled Osborne to compete in the Bullpup Relays. It was
mildly chilly and breezy day for the Lady Huskies.
The NV 6/7 th grade girls placed 4 th out of seven teams with 61 points. Haedyn Cox earned the gold in
pole vault, silver in high jump after tying for first and jumping off, and bronze in the 100m hurdles and
200m hurdles. The 800m relay team of Andrea Meraz, Josie Nech, Rene’ Horacek, and Kylee Ledbetter
took second. Ledbetter earned the silver in the 75m dash and Horacek took home a bronze in long
jump.
The NV 8 th grade girls placed 6 th out of nine teams with 49 points. Jordyn Cox won the pole vault and
200m hurdles while also placing second in the triple jump and 100m hurdles.

schools competed on a very hot, windy day, and our girls saw a lot of competition in every event.
Jordyn Cox had a good day winning the 200m hurdles, second in the 100m hurdles and triple jump, and
fourth in the long jump. Our medley relay team of Andrea Meraz, Trista Smith, Rene’ Horacek, and
Jaycee Gebhard ran for the first time this season taking second. Overall, the team placed fourth.

38 th Annual Husky Invitational Track Meet
On April 13 the Northern Valley track team competed in the 38 th Annual Husky
invitational meet in Stockton. There were ten schools at the meet on a hot, very windy day.
The NV Jr. High boys also had a great day, placing 1 st as a team with 109 points, edging
out second place Thunder Ridge with 106 points. All ten NV Jr High boys placed in multiple
events to contribute to the win. Griffin McKinney won four medals on the day. Gold in the 100
hurdles, silver in the 800 and two bronze medals in the shot and 200 hurdles. Lucas Hansen
had a good day winning 3 silver medals and Tait Thalheim won a silver medal in the 100
hurdles.
The NV 6 th grade boys combined scores with the 6 th grade girls to place 6 th . Cash
Compton placed 2 nd in the Long Jump and 100 hurdles and 3 rd in the 100. Aaron Horacek placed
2 nd in the discus.

Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Oberlin for a windy, sunny afternoon of running, jumping and throwing. The Lady Huskies competed well in this quadrangular with Oberlin, Greeley County and Wallace County coming out fourth with a point spread of 14.5 points between the first and fourth teams. It was a fun day of competition and personal records. Jordyn Cox earned two gold medals in the 100m hurdles and 200m hurdles and two silver medals in the pole vault and long jump. Her younger sister, Haedyn, won the pole vault, silver in high jump, and bronze in 200m hurdles. Jaycee Gebhard earned the bronze in the two mile while our discus throwers scored numerous points: Trista
Smith placed second, Rene’ Horacek placed third, Josephine Nech placed third, and Iris Schemper placed fourth. We ended the day with second place in the mile relay ran by Kylee Ledbetter, Trista Smith, Andrea Meraz, and Jaycee Gebhard.

On April 11 the Northern Valley Track team traveled to Oberlin to compete in a Quadrangular meet with Oberlin, Greeley County and Wallace County. It was a hot, windy day against good competition.
The Husky boys placed fourth in the meet. NV won 1 st place in two relay races. Lucas Hansen placed 2 nd in the triple jump, Peter Towne placed 3 rd in the two mile and Tait Thalheim placed 3 rd in the pole vault.

The Earth Science class went to Cloud County Community College in Concordia to learn about wind power, solar power, and drone technology. The class learned about college courses, career opportunities, basics of the industries and the future of renewable energies.

On April 6th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Norton for their first track meet of the season. A total of ten teams competed at the Norton Invitational.
The NV Girls placed 8th scoring 17 points as a team. Bringing home medals were Mary Baird
with 3rd place in the high jump and Audrey Bina with 1st in the triple jump. Audrey jumped 33-10.5
inches breaking the school records set by Kortney Cunningham of 33-9.75 in 2013.
The NV Boys came home with 6
th place scoring 60 points as a team. Bringing home medals
were Brian Bencomo in the 400m placing 1st, Kenton Thalheim with 1st in the 800m and 2nd in the
pole vault, Gabriel Rudd in long jump with 3rd
, and the 4x400m Relay team with 2nd ran by Brian
Bencomo, Owen Hammond, Gabriel Rudd, and Kenton Thalheim.
Coach Hansen, “Even though we were nursing some injuries, as a team, the athletes performed
well for our first track meet. I am looking forward to what we can accomplish in the rest of this
season. Great job to all of the athletes and for Audrey Bina to break a school record on her first jump
of her first high school track meet is exciting.”
The Huskies will travel to Colby for the Triplains meet on Tuesday and on Friday to Hill City.
