Northern Valley Schools is accepting applications for the 9- 12 Grade Vocational Agriculture Teacher position.
Northern Valley Schools has a four-day week school year. We are a 1A school that serves students in both Norton and Phillips Counties with a current PreK-12 enrollment of 145 students. We have a PreK-4 Elementary and a 9-12 High School in Almena. The 5-8 Middle School is in Long Island.
We have a strong FFA tradition, history of academic excellence and accomplished athletic programs. Our small class size allows for one - on - one interaction with our students. Our communities are strong supporters of the school and extra-curricular activities.
Duties will include teaching HS vocational agriculture classes. We have an up-to-date shop (welding, mechanics, woodworking, etc) attached to our classroom area and a separate greenhouse (seven years old). This is a great opportunity and we look forward to hearing from you.

Plainville JV Showcase-
Brooke Preston and Audrey Brubaker attended the last JV meet of the Huskies' golf season. The showcase featured 67 golfers in an 18-hole tournament for the coveted gold jacket. Both girls competed hard and ended their seasons competitively. Brooke shot a 156 and Audrey shot a 136. Both girls showed improvement throughout the season and should continue to grow over the summer in their skillsets.
Oxford Knipping Invitational-
The varsity team took to Oxford, NE for an 18-hole tournament and fought a lot of wind and tough conditions. Jason Cox led the Huskies with a 99 to tie for 15th but lost the tiebreaker to take 16th. Jeremiah Hansen, Kenton Thalheim, and Conner David all shot 107 to tie for 25th, Robert Vsetecka shot a 108 to end at 29th.
The varsity team will be in Phillipsburg on May 7th at 3 pm for the final invitational of the year. The Huskies will have regionals in Atwood on May 13th beginning at 8:30 am for the chance to go back to state competition.
Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On April 28th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field competed in the
Logan Invitational in Phillipsburg. A total of 13 teams competed.
The NV Girls placed 4
th. Bringing home medals were Audrey Bina with 1st in the
triple jump and Jordyn Cox with 2nd in pole vault. The NV girls also ran 2 relays getting

nd in both the 4 x 800m ran by Landry Gebhard, Jaycee Gebhard, Savannah Area and
Haley Hansen and the 4 x 400m ran Jordyn Cox, Savannah Area, Haley Hansen, and
Jaycee Gebhard.
The NV Boys came home with 2
nd place. Bringing home medals were Jeremiah
Hansen with 1st in the 100m, 200m, and long jump, Kenton Thalheim with 2nd in the 400
and pole vault and 1st in triple jump, Owen Hammond with 1st in high jump and 2nd in the

Coach Hansen, “It was a busy week with two track meets. Very excited that Gavin
Thalheim was able to break the school record in pole vault at the Logan meet. We had
multiple PRs broken again this week and performed well at both meets finishing out our
regular season. Looking forward to seeing what the kids can do at league next week.”
The Huskies will travel to Colby next Friday to compete and the WKLL League
Meet.
Gavin Thalheim, sophmore, broke the 2019 pole vault record with a jump of 13-7 at the Logan Invitational on Tuesday.
On Sunday May 5th, Kenton Thalheim accepted the Governor's Scholar Award from Governor Laura Kelly awarded to the top 1% of Seniors from each Kansas high school. Kenton chose Mr. Pugh as his Teacher of Influence to attend the ceremony with him and parents Austin and Angela.
The six senior boys in the construction technology class have been working very hard to create a nice shed/mini home to put up for sale. Though the year is ending, construction is not moving as fast as we would like. The exterior of the building will be finished. We are accepting sealed bids on the shed from now until the end of day on May 16th. Mr. Tharman will contact the winning bid to make arrangements for pickup. As always, we appreciate the communities support in everything we do as Huskies.
Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Phillipsburg to compete at the Logan Junior High School Invitational Track Meet. The weather was beautiful for the eight schools competing. Our seventh and eight graders are short on numbers but they are always ready to compete. The sixth-grade girls had a great day taking first place with 113 team points.
Rene’ Horacek had a good day earning a silver and two bronze medals and helping the medley relay team. Annika McKinney had a great day with four gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 400m and shot put. Cambrie Sproul had a personal record in the high jump at 4 feet earning the fifth gold medal for the sixth-grade girls.

The Northern Valley FFA Chapter had some members go to State FFA Livestock Judging and Food Science in Manhattan the last few days of April. For Livestock Judging Jordyn Cox placed 50/360, and Austyn Cox placed 98/360, Kenton Thalheim and Caden Lowry also participated. The Food Science team did their best and showed that hard work can pay off, but there was some hard competition.
The Northern Valley golf team took a beautiful Tuesday afternoon to shoot some great golf. Four Huskies attended Norton's 9-hole JV Meet on April 30th.
Three of the four Huskies finished in the top 15.
Freshman Conner David had a career day shooting a 42 and finishing 2nd place overall.
Senior Jason Cox shot a 46 to finish 10th.
Junior Robert Vsetecka shot a 47 for a 14th place finish.
Sophomore Audrey Brubaker shot a 71 to round it out for the Huskies.
The Huskies next meets will be Thursday May 2nd. The varsity will travel to Oxford, NE and the JV will participate in the Plainville JV Showcase to finish the JV season.

On Tuesday, April 30 the Northern Valley track team competed in the Logan invitational meet in Phillipsurg. There were eight schools at the meet on a nice sunny, spring day.
The NV Jr. High boys also had an outstanding day, placing 1st as a team with 112 points., Brewster was 2nd with 100 points and Cheylin 3rd with 90 points. Tait Thalheim had his best track meet of the season winning four gold medals, including a PR in the pole vault at 9’. Griffin McKinney had a big day winning a gold medal in the shot and three silver medals. Lucas Hansen placed third in the triple jump and 200. Cash Compton placed 2nd in the long jump with a personal best 16’ ¾”.
The NV 6th grade boys placed 4th as a team. Colt Rogers won three silver medals and Max Wilder won the bronze medal in the 200.

NVMS 7th Grade Plans the Day! After researching and calling to set up tours, the 7th graders spent the day learning how math is used in real-life jobs. Our first stop was the Harlan County Sheriff's Department to learn about accident scene reconstruction. Next stop was South Central Diesel in Holdrege for a quick lesson on diesel mechanics, then we headed to the Kearney airport to learn about fuel mileage from a pilot. K-town Bakery gave the students a lesson on owning a business and measuring for large recipes. At UNK's Discovery Hall, the students talked to an astronaut about space and our last stop was Pinnacle Bank for a brief lesson on banking.

On 4/25, three Huskies headed to the I-70 Classic in Ellis/WaKeeney. Due to the impending weather, the Huskies did not shoot 18 holes at Ellis and then travel to WaKeeney to shoot another round of 18, as planned. The meet ended up being 27 holes all shot in Ellis from the different tee markers, with the two men's tees being the scores taken for placing. Robert Vsetecka shot a 95, Jason Cox- 102, Conner David 119.
The Huskies head to the Norton JV meet on Tuesday 4/30 and the JV will travel to Plainville while the Varsity will travel to Oxford, NE on Thursday 5/2.
Northern Valley High School Track & Field
On April 26
th the Northern Valley High School Track & Field team traveled to Quinter to
compete in the Quinter HS Invitational. A total of 18 teams competed.
The NV Boys came home with 5th place. Bringing home medals were Owen Hammond with 2nd
in High Jump and the 300M Hurdles and 3rd in 110M Hurdles, Kenton Thalheim with 2nd in Pole
Vault and 5th in 400M, Gavin Thalheim with 3rd in Pole Vault and 4th in Javelin, and Jeremiah
Hansen with 2nd in Long Jump.
Coach Hansen, “The Huskies worked hard all day against some tough competition. The girls
may not have brought home any medals, but they competed hard setting set 3 new PRs. The boys
came away with 5th overall and they set 6 new PRs. The Huskies have had consecutive weeks of
new PRs showing growth within our athletes and the desire to continue to get better.”
The Huskies will travel to Phillipsburg Tuesday to compete in the Logan Invitation and then to
Mankato on Friday for the Rock Hills Invitational.

On April 26 the Northern Valley Junior High track team traveled to Quinter to compete in the 43nd annual Quinter Jr High Track Meet with 15 other schools. The Huskies gave it all they had on a cool, wet, windy day in western Kansas. The NV junior high boys placed 7th as a team with 36 points against some tough competition. The Husky relay teams ran well, placing 3rd in the 4x100 and 2nd in the 4x200. Tait Thalheim had a PR in the triple jump, placing 2nd with a jump of 32’ 10”. Griffin McKinney ran well in the 200 hurdles placing 2nd with a time of 30.7

Northern Valley Middle School Girls Track
The Northern Valley Middle School girls traveled to Osborne, KS, for a competitive day of track. It was a cool day overall, but the weather was good for the ten teams attending.
The sixth and seventh grade girls saw some tougher competition but as a team were able to get 9.67 points. The 8th grade girls worked hard missing the top six in many events by 0.1 of a second. As a team they four girls earned 26 points. Kylee Ledbetter had a good day winning a silver in the 75 meter and fourth in the discus.

Northern Valley Junior High Boys Track
On April 18 the Northern Valley Junior High Track Team traveled to Osborne to compete in the Bullpup Relays. The Huskies had a good day with many personal bests. The NV 6th-7th grade boys scored 74 points and finished in 3rd place as a team. Cash Compton dominated the sprints winning gold medals in the 75m and 200m and a silver medal in the 100m. Classmate Bryson Wilder also did well placing 1st in the pole vault, 2ndin the 200m hurdles and 3rd in the long jump. Levi Black had a PR in the discus, throwing 83’ 1” collecting the bronze medal.
The NV 8th grade boys scored 55 points and finished 4th as a team. Tait Thalheim had an excellent day placing 1st in the pole vault, 2nd in the 100m hurdles, 3rd in the 200m hurdles and 4th in the triple jump. Griffin Mckinney had a PR in the 200m hurdles and placed 2nd. Lucas Hansen sprinted well placing 4th in the 75m and the 200m.
